This match-up saw two theoretically like teams, both led by veteran captains but otherwise containing fresh but unproven and tempestuous youths. However the Kestrel youths are quite clearly on a level well beyond any of Chudley’s grandest ambitions.

The only change for either team was Rebecca Rumstich returning for the Cannons, in place of faltering Chaser Rose Oglethorpe.

The Kestrels’ came into this match on the back of the complete demolition job they did on Puddlemere United last week, so had a golden opportunity to spruce up their percentage, and more importantly their momentum, with consecutive annihilations.

For the first twenty minutes this eventuality looked nigh-on inevitable, as the Kestrels raced through nine unanswered goals.

But the gods of snitchery had fated this game to conclude with haste. Having come to terms with typical preordained defeat, suddenly victory was a possibility again for the Cannons. Evan Dorkins swooped, at least lacking the blindness and lethargy of his infamous counterpart Percy Prang.

Unfortunately Prang and Dorkins do share a pedestrian pace in the air, so what should have been a sure fire catch for Dorkins quickly came under threat from the closing tracer bullet that was Florentia Denshaw.

Dorkins reached, outstretching his fingers to within inches, but speed and momentum was with Denshaw who snapped the snitch from poor Evan’s fingertips to cash perhaps the season’s most expensive get out of jail free card.

The fact that Saraid O’Hare touched the Quaffle only once in the entire match spoke volumes for the Kestrel dominance. But the fact that her team went within a half-inch of defeat despite this, speaks volumes for why Quidditch is the greatest game of all.
