Poor suffering Wigtown. Less than 36 hours had passed since the Wanderers four day marathon against Kenmare came to an end. Yet here they were again, somehow managing to scrape seven half-healthy players and fronting up once more. Their opponents were another young exciting team of the Kestrel mould, but arguably more ruthless and intimidating.

Caerphilly’s job was to avoid complacency and be sure to get clear of the snitch margin as efficiently as possible against their badly hamstrung opponents. Young Keeper Caddock Carrington had struggled of late and here was a ready-made opportunity to gain some confidence against lesser opposition. But manager Alwyn Arianrhod did now allow the context of the opposition to get in the way of his selection preferences, harshly relieving Carrington of the goal saving duty in favour of Rufus Hitchin.

Who was in goal was of little consequence in this match however, for the Wanderers were essentially incapable of threatening the goal. Crisiant Lafarge dominated, with speed no Wanderer could nearly compete with.

Hitchin was rusty and the lone hand of Aileen Anstice was sufficient to tick the Wigtown score over, but the margin was still beyond 150 inside two hours.

Asgeir Lofthouse rubbed salt into the Wigtown wounds, flooring Cosmo Thruston and Saundra Melvina with devastating Bludger attacks.

It was a measure of just how desperately the Wanderers longed for rest that even with her side only 190 points down (close enough that with luck the snitch margin can be re-bridged), Begonia Parkin snatched the first opportunity to take the snitch and end the game.

The best Wigtown could realistically hope for from this contest was a narrow loss, so a margin of merely 40 was missing accomplished. The Catapults left the pitch rightfully frustrated after failing to convert their dominance into a meaningful thrashing.

Caerphilly Catapults - 260: Lafarge 17, Lympsham 7, Denison 2
Wigtown Wanderers - 220: Anstice 6, Drummond 1, Parkin Capture

PLAYER OF THE MATCH: CRISIANT LAFARGE (CATAPULTS)
