The inimitable failure of the Cannons aside, the Falcons are the club who have waited the longest of any in the League for their last triumph, a wait that has now reached an astonishing 35 years. Astonishing when one considers that the Falcons rarely miss the finals and have been one of the League's most consistently performing teams throughout the period since 1977.

But the lack of ultimate success is telling, yet another sign that the team's antiquated style of intimidatory thuggery is not suited to the sleek and professional modern game of Quidditch.

For 2012, the Falcons squad is a deceptively sound one, with experience and quality in every position. History suggests they will not be there come Grand Final day. But history and squad strength both suggest that they will feature heavily throughout the season.
