The Kestrels are by far the youngest team in the League and it showed last year with a series of mediocre performances, interspersed with sporadic freakishness. Currently, most of these exuberant but inconsistent kids are not yet of the standard required to compete realistically in the professional League, but the talent is clearly there. The Kenmare administrators are building an impressive army of all-Irish Chasers and with Seeker Florentia Denshaw showing signs of improvement late in 2011, the ingredients are there for an improved performance.

Every team will have to keep careful watch of them in coming years, but this is not the Kestrels’ time yet. They are capable of occasional brilliance, but more often than not are brittle and it would be generous to think they could make the finals in 2012.
