Statistically, 2011 was an unparalleled disaster for the Holyhead Harpies, as their League-best streak of 24 consecutive years reaching the finals came to an end. The reality of the situation is far less dire though. In truth the Harpies were immensely unlucky, having been struck by a surplus of injuries, including one to star Seeker Zelda Bloch. With Bloch absent, the Harpies lost three of their last four matches when leading by more than 50 points but less than the crucial 150. The last round loss to the Arrows was enough to sneak Appleby into the 8th and final spot in the playoffs ahead of the Harpies. 

The personnel and infrastructure remain for the Harpies to be a constant threat this year. Winning the League Cup is probably slightly beyond them, but then you can never write the mercurial and often heroic Harpies off entirely. Repeating last year's finish outside the Top Eight is severely unlikely though.
